Crisis narrowly averted

So, I finally called up the dress shop today.

white dresses

Melissa and I finally found a Saturday when we’re both available to go make the trek through frothy whiteness to find my dress. You remember my dress, right?

mydress?

So I call up Girls in White Dresses and leave a message letting them know that I want to make an appointment to check out a bridesmaid’s dress. A girl calls me back and we go through all my information when she asks, “What line were you looking at?”

“Simple Silhouettes,” I reply.

“Oh, we actually just discontinued that line. We’re waiting to have it taken off our website.”

Completely crestfallen, I end the conversation and start hyperventilating. I want this dress, nay, I need this dress. I called Rob to tell him the bad news.

“Where else do they have it?” He asked.

“I don’t know…” I said, starting to whine. “They’re based in New York.”

“Do we need to fly you out there? I’ll look at Skybus,” Rob said. I told him to check the designer’s website and see if they had another, closer location. He found a place in Cincinnati.

I called this place up and told the girl I wanted to make an appointment to look at a bridesmaid dress. She took my information and then asked me how many bridesmaids I had.

“Umm, it’s actually for me…”

This was the part I was really worried about. I’m convinced that places won’t let you buy a bridesmaid dress if you’re the bride.

“Oh, like an alternative wedding dress?” The girl asked.

“Yes, exactly,” I said. Whatever you say, lady.

“And what line were you looking at?”

I crossed my fingers. “Simple Silhouettes…?”

“Oh yeah,” she said. “Love them!”

So the appointment is booked. Saturday, February 16. I hope this dress is as wonderful as I think it is.

real simple

So, Real Simple magazine says that a good tip for saving money is to scour eBay for things like, “ring bearer pillows, flower girl baskets, veils” etc. Apparently, I can find great gently used or new items for a lot less!

That’s awesome, because I’m not using ANY of those things. Can eBay find me a caterer approved by the YWCA who’ll do the job for $100?

I’ll give the magazine some credit. They do have a nice budget organizer that breaks things down to minute detail, and they have good ideas on how to honor deceased loved ones at the ceremony.

I guess it was worth my $9.

weiland’s

I forgot to mention that yesterday we also had a sit down with the fine people at Weiland’s Gourmet Market regarding the catered buffet for the reception. A contract has not yet been signed, but we’re 90% certain that we’re going with them. The food looks delicious, and they have tablecloths in chocolate brown and mint green. What more can you ask for?

Photographer: Secured!

Today we signed the contract with our wedding day photographer.

A major step accomplished, and with still nine months to go until the big day!

Our photographer will be the lovely Kimberly Rottmayer (ably assisted by her husband, local ukulele-playing sensation Eric Rottmayer) of www.picturethesound.com.

Be sure to say hello to Kim at the wedding. She takes the most wonderful photos of bands and weddings and we know she’ll do an incredible job capturing our day.

Especially the Elvis impersonator.

Wait, what?

A sample of Kim’s work, taken at the wedding of our good friends Clint and Becky Reno.

Save-the-dates, part three

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

So we finally sent out our save-the-dates not so long ago. We went to Barnes & Noble and picked out some super-cool Ohio-themed postcards, seeing as how the save-the-dates were only mailed out to the invitees from the New York/New Jersey area (and one out to Washington State). So now all you folks can share Ohio trivia with each other. How many presidents were from Ohio? Did you get the recipe for how to make Buckeye candy? What is a buckeye, anyway?

Melissa

Megan

Melissa and Megan are my brides’ ladies for this shindig. Melissa (top) has been my best friend for over 13 years, and I couldn’t think of a better person to be my Best Woman. (She doesn’t always have two bottles of beer in her hands…I’m pretty sure she was holding her boyfriend’s bottle while he took her picture, but hey, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.)

Megan has been Rob’s sister for 24 years, which also warrants a spot on the firing line.

 cake

Rob’s family got him (us) this cake when he went home to New Jersey at Christmastime. Sadly, I was stuck here in Ohio so I didn’t get to sample any of it. I hear it was good.

And apparently his family gave the cake decorator the correct spelling of my name, and she went ahead and changed it anyway. Grr.

We’re not really zombies.

Wedding night hotel

Sunday, January 6th, 2008

Rob and I went to visit The Lofts downtown today. We got a tour of three different rooms and I think we’ve decided on the lovely large suite! It’s got enough room for me to get dressed and ready the day of the wedding and seems perfect for some candid photos.
